WHAT TO SEE AND VISIT
For Laos, “what to see” is less about venues and more about culture and tradition witnessed in real time. Two features carry this section:
Alms Giving Ceremony (Tak Bat)
At dawn each day, monks walk in silent procession through town to receive alms of sticky rice from kneeling residents — a living devotional practice, not a performance staged for visitors. It’s Luang Prabang’s most iconic image.
Boun Lai Heua Fai — Festival of Lights
Held around the October full moon (this year, October 27), marking the end of Buddhist Lent. Illuminated boats, built and decorated by local temples and neighborhoods, are set adrift on the Mekong at night alongside candlelit processions through town.

Opened March 2018 on a former French estate once owned by colonial diplomat Auguste Pavie, designed by Bill Bensley. The resort is built directly around a natural waterfall and river running through the property — 23 rooms and tented villas, several named after historical figures who shaped the region (explorer Ernest Hébrard, painter Alix Aymé).
Amantaka
A genuinely unusual backstory: 32 French colonial buildings that served as Luang Prabang’s provincial hospital from the early 1900s until 2005, when it was abandoned. Aman acquired and restored the site (10 of the buildings are UNESCO-protected) and opened as a 24-suite hotel in September 2009. Worth mentioning: the name itself is a blend of “aman” (peace, in Sanskrit) and “taka,” from Tipitaka, the Buddhist scriptures — so the name literally means “peaceful teaching of the Buddha.”
The Namkhan

WHAT TO DO – MICE
Private Baci Ceremony
A traditional string-tying blessing ritual rooted in a blend of animism and Buddhism, meant to call the body’s 32 spirits (khwan) back together before a journey or important occasion. It’s inherently communal — elders tie white cotton strings around each guest’s wrist while offering blessings — which makes it a natural fit for an incentive-trip welcome night or team kickoff with zero adaptation needed.
Mekong Sunset Cruise + Pak Ou Caves
A private boat charter along the Mekong to Pak Ou, twin limestone caves carved into cliffs at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. The caves have been a pilgrimage site since at least the 16th century — legend credits their discovery to King Setthathirath — and today hold more than 4,000 Buddha statues in wood, resin, and gilded forms, left by generations of pilgrims. Staging live music and catering at sunset on the boat turns a sightseeing trip into a genuine event.
Living Crafts Centre
What started as a five-weaver shopfront has grown into one of Southeast Asia’s most respected textile social enterprises, working with 500+ artisans across 14 provinces. The riverside Living Crafts Centre (opened 2005) offers hands-on weaving, natural dyeing, and batik workshops, plus private group dining in a garden setting on the Mekong.
Living Land + Cooking Class
Community-run organic rice farm. Guests plough with a water buffalo, plant and thresh rice by hand, then cook with what’s grown on site.

Elephant Sanctuary
Laos’s first no-riding elephant sanctuary. Roughly 500 acres of forest along the Nam Khan River, home to a dozen rescued retired elephants (ages 4 to over 60) who were previously used for logging or riding camps. Groups are deliberately kept small — 6 to 8 people — so the elephants aren’t stressed.
Bear Rescue Center
Caring for moon bears rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and bile farms. In May 2026, this center completed the largest bear rescue in Southeast Asian history — 27 moon bear cubs pulled from an illegal bile farm — bringing their total bears rescued in Laos past 150.
Kuang Si Waterfalls Excursion
Multi-tiered cascades pouring into brilliant turquoise, travertine pools, widely considered one of the most photographed natural sites in Southeast Asia.
Private Sunrise Mount Phousi
Central Luang Prabang’s hilltop temple rises roughly 100 meters above town; 328 steps lead to the golden stupa at the top. Visiting ahead of public hours gives an uncrowded view over the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers — most visitors do this at sunset, so a private sunrise version is a genuine point of differentiation.
